Electro-Acoustic compositions

My interest in Electro-Acoustic composition is primarily concerned with employing sampled/electronic sounds to compliment works with live instruments. I regard Electro-acoustic textures as an exploration of colour, creating new possibilities in works for instruments such as piano, ‘cello and the voice.

My pieces feature piano/keyboard/cello with recorded samples. the pieces begin as recorded samples recalling place and time, the form of the piece however is provided in the writing for the solo instrument(s). Pieces may be written for live performance or as a studio recording project.

Amsterdam (2008)

The piece is a piano-led fantasy over a collage of recorded sounds made during a visit to Amsterdam in 2005. Bells (recorded at the Blumenmarkt and Oude Kerk) people and footsteps on the cobbled streets, the street trams… The piece also includes recorded ‘cellos.

At The Gates Of Nessebar (2004)

The piece was written as a studio composition though is now being made available as a live performance for piano and pre-recorded material. The piano blends with and responds to audio recorded in Nessebar including sounds from a Greek Orthodox service, crickets and a piper on the walls of old Nessebar. The style is a piano fantasy and is fully scored.
